Context...

Every year heavy rains are expected in these months from January to March, but unfortunately this week the worst flood in recent years occurred in the region, causing the river to rise many meters in a few minutes. Many regions in Acre were affected and especially the Kaxinawá neighborhood located in the In the Municipality of Jordão. Hundreds of people were affected, the neighborhood was completely flooded and many indigenous and non-indigenous residents lost everything. Villages close to the neighborhood were also affected and need help.

We are articulating an international campaign led by the Huni Kuin People's Federation of Acre (FEPHAC) in partnership with the Forest Guardians Institute (IGF) for collective action that will support the affected population so that they can rebuild their lives. At the moment, ninety-five indigenous families have been displaced with urgent needs such as food, gas, drinking water, blankets and hammocks. We are attentive and mapping other affected areas such as villages in the region that are also suffering from flooding.

This is an emergency action and we count on the collaboration of all partners. The Guardians of the Forest Institute is an organization that has over ten years of work and is the project arm of the Huni Kuin Guardians RJ Group with an experienced team of people.

Our role at this moment is to map national and international donors to create an emergency fund using the Weight platform and then direct this amount directly to the federation to purchase the necessary items. After this stage, we will send everything collected to the city of Jordão and start the distribution stage.

We ask all partners, NGOs, Institutes, Churches, spiritual houses and people for financial support and dissemination of this campaign for the preservation of these lives that are so important. If you have already raised money for this cause, send it directly to FEPHAC or use our website to send the money.
